The Association for Parrot Protection, LAPPA was created in 1995 by local residents living alongside these remarkable birds, concerned for the population's future. LAPPA is a community based conservation organization dedicated to the protection of Scarlet Macaws its roosting, feeding and nesting areas.
Thecurrent board of directors is made up of 7 members from the nearby communities of Tárcoles and Quebrada Ganado. Some of them have been active members for many years and have now taken the task of revivingall the projects that were left aside because of financial reasons, however, more than everwe need to continue the protection of the seareas and member sof the Psittacidae family (macaws, parrotsand parakeets) since populations of scarletand Yellow-Naped parrot have tendedto fallagain as well as parakeets because of the stealing of nests.
